WADE Design Open 2024

Brief

Submit an original design, architectural concept, or art piece that responds to the theme: 'Heritage in the Built Environment'. Work must be conceived and produced in West Africa or by a West African diaspora creator.

Eligibility

Open to students enrolled at accredited West African institutions and independent creators (18+) residing in or originating from the ECOWAS region. Schools may submit up to three entries per discipline.

Prizes

  • 1st Prize: £2,000 + Feature profile in WADE Journal
  • 2nd Prize: £1,000 + Digital portfolio showcase
  • 3rd Prize: £500 + Certificate of Recognition
  • Schools Award: Trophy + WADE Journal accreditation

West African Photography Award

Brief

A photographic series (5–10 images) documenting contemporary West African urban space, craft, or cultural expression. Digital and analogue submissions are welcome.

Eligibility

Open to all West African photographers aged 18–35. Professional and amateur photographers are equally eligible.

Prizes

  • Winner: £1,500 + Solo exhibition at a partner gallery
  • Runner-up: £750 + Publication in print edition

Submission Guidelines

  • All submissions must be original work produced within the last 24 months.
  • Work must be submitted in English or French with an English translation included.
  • Digital files only (PDF, JPEG, or ZIP). Maximum 20 MB per submission.
  • Schools may nominate up to three entries across any category.
  • Shortlisted entrants will be notified by email within 4 weeks of the closing date.
  • WADE Journal reserves the right to publish all submitted work in the journal.
